A woman who found herself tied to a barbed wire fence in Germany was shocked by the death of her boyfriend following a row.

Kerstin Lehmann, 25, had been with her long-term boyfriend Lars Lehnert for two years, but they had reconciled when she found out she was pregnant.

She said: 'For me, it was like the best thing that could have happened to me.'

After the wedding of her first child she had been living together with Lars - a native of Germany - in a village in Bavaria for almost a year.

They were planning to marry in June at the Walden Castle, but they had both moved in together.

But when Lars came back to the village for the holiday she was unable to get a date with him.

She said: 'I wasn't looking forward to seeing Lars. He wasn't someone I wanted to have sex with.

'He was not someone I could be with.'

While she continued to spend time with Lars her life was also being affected by the split.

Lehmann, who worked as an au pair, had planned to marry the same man for the wedding, but had failed to persuade her long-term boyfriend that they should marry.

She said: 'I was very sad. I knew what he would say if they moved in together. He was very, very quiet.

'He was quite a nice man, he was an amazing father. But, he made me not want to be with him.'

During a visit to her former home she had met up with her boyfriend, who was living with his parents in a remote area, but she was unable to see them.

They were still in contact with each other when the killing occurred.

A Facebook post appeared that explained the couple had arranged to marry in the fall of the previous year.

In the post, they described themselves as 'friends', adding: 'We are in a committed relationship and we have a very strong bond, something very important to us and important to other people on the planet.

'Kathryn, on the other hand is a new person, she has no future in the future and I hope with her support in finding that future, I will be able to look forward to getting to know her better as a friend.'

They were expecting their first child together as a result of the break-up but she had not been able to see her son properly, her friend said.

Police and the wedding organisers said the killing was an isolated incident, but some questioned whether she had been in a violent or unstable situation.
